On May 10, 2018 we celebrated both our second anniversary and reaching our first $100,000 in charitable donations in the Capital District. It was a festive and exciting meeting – not only because of past accomplishments but we also welcomed 12 new members. We also want to thank Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy for stopping in to show her support.
Mary Beth Fowler and Rachel Eveleth from The RED Bookshelf, last meeting’s recipient, brought one of their portable bookshelves along with the prototype of the new signs – including our logo. They shared how our funds are supplying several of these portable units along with the purchase of books for diverse populations.
The three local charities that were picked for nomination this meeting were:
- Capital Roots – Nourish healthy communities by providing access to fresh food and green spaces for all. Their vision for the future is of a Capital Region where every person has access to fresh, affordable, healthy food.
- Grassroot Givers – They make the connection between the needs in our community and those who have resources to share. Our focus is to always give with dignity, to empower individuals and families who are trying to improve their lives.
- 15-LOVE – To reach out in a loving, caring way to youth of the Capital Region, using tennis as the medium, especially those in the inner cities of Albany, Troy, Schenectady and Rensselaer.
Congratulations to Grassroot Givers who became the recipient of our May 2018 collective giving!
There are so many wonderful and deserving charities in the Capital District. At the meeting, a summary of how easy it is for you to nominate your favorite charity along with a one-page handout was presented. We also have updated the nomination section of our website. If any member has questions about nominating a charity, we’re happy to answer them!
At the end of our meeting, we all enjoyed mini-cupcakes and soft drinks to celebrate our major milestones. A big shout out and thank you to the volunteers that made this meeting extra special and to the many women that help make our meetings run so smoothly every quarter.
We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting on August 9, 2018. All women are welcome to join us.
